Chevy, or Chevrolet gets what it means to do the right thing. Chevy, owned by General Motors is a company that helps individuals and nonprofits. Although GM is going through some tough times with recalls right now, they continue to do good works.

According to the International Chamber of Commerce, corporate responsibility is “corporate responsibility is the commitment by companies to manage their activities in a responsible way. More broadly, CR includes efforts by business to contribute to the society in which it operates.”

Corporate Responsibility

Chevy and Nonprofits

On April 12, 2014 the first 2015 Corvette Z06 was donated by Chevy for auction. The money raised went to the Barbara Karmanos Cancer Institute’s Infusion Center. This is the location for chemotherapy treatments. The total amount raised was one million dollars. Last year, Chevy raised the same amount for this same nonprofit.

Donations to the Red Cross and other charities to assist during natural disasters is an ongoing effort. After Hurricane Sandy, Chevy donated about 300 vehicles to help first responders train for assisting those in need during similar situations as hurricanes, tornadoes, etc. Another 24 vehicles were donated to Habitat for Humanity to help in their goal to rebuild.

Chevy and the Environment

Chevy sponsors the Chevrolet GREEN Educators Awards. Winning teachers who focus on the environment are presented grants to continue their work. And then, of course there’s the Chevy Volt, an electric car, which runs on both fuel and electricity. The ion-battery pack can be charged at home or at charging stations. Using an electric car cuts down on use of gasoline.

There are many other organizations that Chevy, through the GM Foundation work with. Some examples are the United Way, Education Nation in Detroit and Safe Kids. Grants for individuals include the Buick Achievers Scholarship Foundation, and grants for children to attend preschool. I think this proves that Chevy believes in and works toward corporate responsibility.

What do you think about Chevy and it’s work with nonprofits?
